Project Details

General Information

SkyBlox adopts a "Back to Nature" ethos, blending indoor and outdoor spaces seamlessly. Vibrant communal spaces, including an open lobby, courtyard, dining area, open kitchen, laundry, and games lounge, foster a strong sense of community. The use of natural materials and prefabricated concrete in living units emphasizes sustainable and naturalistic living.
SkyBlox employs Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC), environmentally friendly materials, energy- efficient systems, and rainwater harvesting to reduce costs and promote sustainability. Roof and wall structures meet green rating standards, reducing heat gain and enhancing interior comfort. The walk-up housing concept and passive design strategies minimize maintenance and improve accessibility, providing affordable housing in an inclusive setting. This promotes social cohesion and economic empowerment, contributing to sustainable urban development.
SkyBlox aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enhancing resident well-being (SDG 3) through natural lighting, ventilation, and green spaces. It champions affordable, clean energy (SDG 7) with its energy-efficient design and innovative PPVC construction (SDG 9). By fostering sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and responsible consumption (SDG 12), SkyBlox sets a benchmark for greener urban habitats, supporting climate action (SDG 13) by mitigating urban heat and reducing emissions.

Creative Solution (Creativity/Innovation)

SkyBlox’s innovative approach centers on Prefabricated Prefinished Volumetric Construction (PPVC), which speeds up building while reducing on-site waste and environmental impact. This method ensures secure, durable housing that meets high quality and sustainability standards. The flexible design of prefabricated units accommodates various living arrangements and allows for seamless expansion. SkyBlox caters to both temporary and long-term needs, with a modular design facilitating efficient dismantling, relocation, and reassembly, thus reducing the carbon footprint. Four unitFour-unit layouts target diverse demographics, including students, expatriates, young professionals, and medium-sized families, ensuring versatility and broad appeal.

Social Impact (Inspiration/Impact)

SkyBlox influences sustainability in daily life by providing high-quality, affordable housing through innovative design and construction techniques. By streamlining processes and using modular units, SkyBlox reduces development costs, making housing more accessible. This approach addresses the challenge of delivering sustainable urban housing despite rising costs. Aligning with SDG 11, SkyBlox offers diverse housing options, ensuring inclusivity for various demographic groups. The project fosters a secure and inclusive community environment with open, communal spaces that encourage interaction and cultivate a sense of community. This model sets a new benchmark for future developments and positively impacts broader urban sustainability efforts.

Participation/Cooperation

SkyBlox involved extensive collaboration with residents, local authorities, and the community to foster trust and unity. Over several months, we meticulously gathered input to understand their needs and requirements. This inclusive approach ensured that SkyBlox redefined urban housing norms with a focus on quality and affordability. We optimized private spaces in each unit, including study nooks, pantries, and bathrooms, while consolidating shared amenities into central common areas. Shared spaces, such as lounges, promote interaction and affordability. Our research-driven design ensures an ideal population level, integrating green and communal spaces to enhance the resident experience and foster a balanced urban ecosystem.

Vision for the Future

SkyBlox Co-Living Housing presents a forward-looking vision that can be scaled globally. Through thoughtful design and communal engagement, it offers a model for future residential developments that enhance urban living quality while maintaining a connection with nature and surrounding neighbourhood. As the first landed co-living affordable housing in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, SkyBlox emphasizes accessibility, affordability, and safety, contributing to urban regeneration. The customizable PPVC units can be adapted to different local settings and installed temporarily or permanently, addressing population growth and reducing slum issues worldwide. SkyBlox inspires architects and developers globally, championing sustainable and harmonious urban development.
